It is now official; Internet Explorer is no longer the “Grand Poo-Bah” in browsers. Firefox has just released Mozilla 3.5.4. This version has taken quite a few kinks out and has also made browsing a lot safer. Before, Mozilla had a problem with crashes and memory corruption, but that has been fixed. Also, the security has been amped up quite a bit, so there is little to no chance that anyone can steal your valuable information, you know, like your credit card information and social security numbers that you may fill out on a form. For you music and video buffs, the media library has also been enhanced with better memory.
There are lots of new features in this version of Firefox. One of the best is the enhanced speed, as it is more than twice as fast as Version 3. They went straight to 3.5 from 3.0 to show how many changes and advancements were made. It also features an updated address bar coined the “Awesome Bar” that is very intuitive. It learns your favorite sites in terms of the tags you use for them. For example if your news site is ABC news, you can type the tag “News” and it will have learned to find abcnews.com. It also has a built-in spell checker to check your spelling as you write text in a site, like for a blog entry or comments…hint hint.
Mozilla 3.5.4 also comes with a bunch of new extensions. It has its own email service, Mozilla Thunderbird. It has a whole page dedicated to new themes and add-ons. The add-ons page is amazing. Over 6,000 strong and growing. You can browse photos, view daily weather and forecast, and even listen to your music library all from the comfort of Firefox. Those were just three examples but there are about 5,997+ more. If there is anything that can make your browsing faster, safer, more organized, more colorful, or just more fun, they have it!
The download itself will overwrite any version of Mozilla that you may currently have, but you won’t lose any bookmarks or any of your browsing history. Mozilla comes in almost one hundred different languages and can be run on any Windows, Mac, or Linux operating system.
Mozilla is always trying to improve their services, so they ask for consumer feedback. There are actually two ways to submit feedback. One way is on their feedback form and the other is at Bugzilla. Mozilla is reinventing the way we browse. I know I’m switching, what do you think? Feel free to leave me your comments.
